Why sell Sarajevo

Sarajevo tells the story of Europe in one walk. In Baščaršija, the Ottoman bazaar founded in the fifteenth century, your clients pass the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, coppersmiths' lanes and covered markets. A few minutes later they are on Austro-Hungarian boulevards, at the Catholic cathedral, the Old Orthodox Church and the Jewish heritage of the city. At the Latin Bridge they stand where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot in 1914. At the Tunnel of Hope they learn how the city survived the siege of 1992 to 1996.

It is also an easy city to operate. The centre is compact and walkable, there is a good range of four-star and boutique hotels, food is good value and halal by default in many restaurants, and the mountains start at the edge of town. For Turkish and Gulf clients, Sarajevo feels familiar and welcoming; for European, American and Asian clients it is a revelation.

Highlights

  • Baščaršija, the Sebilj fountain and the old caravanserai of Morića Han
  • Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque and its complex, the heart of Ottoman Sarajevo
  • The Latin Bridge and the site of the 1914 assassination
  • The Catholic Cathedral, the Old Orthodox Church and the Old Synagogue in one short walk
  • The National Museum, home of the Sarajevo Haggadah (opening hours are limited; we confirm before the tour)
  • The Tunnel of Hope museum near the airport
  • The Trebević cable car and the 1984 Olympic bobsleigh track
  • Vrelo Bosne park at Ilidža, at the spring of the Bosna river
  • Day trips to the Olympic mountains of Bjelašnica and Jahorina, and the highland village of Lukomir
  • Day trip to Mostar, with stops in Konjic and Jablanica

Best season and how long to stay

Sarajevo is a year-round destination. Spring and autumn are ideal for groups. Summer is lively, with the Sarajevo Film Festival in August and the main Gulf travel season. Winter brings snow, a festive December and skiing on Jahorina and Bjelašnica; flight choice is thinner in winter, so we plan routings around the year-round hub carriers.

Two nights cover the essentials for a circuit. Three nights allow a full city day plus a day trip to Mostar or the mountains. For a city break, three to four nights work well.

How to combine Sarajevo

Most programmes pair Sarajevo with Mostar and Herzegovina. From there the coast is close: Dubrovnik, Kotor and Split. From the east, Belgrade connects through the Drina valley and Višegrad. Sarajevo is also the natural start of Ottoman heritage routes to Novi Pazar, Prizren and Skopje.

Because we are based here, Sarajevo is where we contract hotels, guides and coaches directly. For meetings and incentives, see our Sarajevo venue guide.

Access

Sarajevo International Airport has year-round flights with Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and AJet from Istanbul, Lufthansa from Frankfurt, Austrian from Vienna, SWISS from Zurich, Air Serbia from Belgrade and Croatia Airlines from Zagreb, plus flydubai from Dubai. Summer adds seasonal Gulf, Turkish resort and low-cost routes. Long-haul markets connect in one stop via Istanbul, Frankfurt, Vienna, Zurich or Dubai.

Ryanair does not serve Sarajevo in winter 2026/27 and several seasonal routes pause, while Wizz Air adds Berlin, Bratislava and Prague from December 2026. Schedules change often, so check them at the time of booking. Last checked: October 2026.

FAQ for agents selling Sarajevo

How far is Sarajevo airport from the old town?

The airport is on the western edge of the city. Transfers to central hotels usually take 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Can my group visit Sarajevo in winter?

Yes. Sarajevo works well as a winter city break, and the Olympic mountains offer skiing. We plan around the year-round hub flights from Istanbul, Frankfurt, Vienna and Zurich, because some low-cost routes pause in winter.

Is Sarajevo good for a conference or incentive?

Yes. The city has conference hotels, cultural venues and unusual dinner settings, and the mountains and Mostar add incentive options. See our MICE and Sarajevo venue pages for details.

Can you arrange a Mostar day trip from Sarajevo?

Yes. It is a full day of about two and a half hours each way, usually with stops in Konjic and Jablanica, and a guided walk in Mostar.
