Why Bosnia and Herzegovina sells

Bosnia and Herzegovina packs Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav and contemporary history into a country you can cross in a day. Sarajevo's old bazaar, Mostar's Old Bridge, the Sufi lodge at Blagaj, the royal town of Jajce and the turquoise rivers of the Una and the Neretva give a group programme variety without long transfers. For Muslim travellers it is a European destination where mosques, halal food and the call to prayer are part of everyday life. For Catholic pilgrims, Medjugorje is one of the most visited shrines in Europe. For Western European and North American groups, it is the story of the twentieth century told on the spot.

Demand is real and broad. According to the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the country recorded 1,963,443 tourist arrivals and 4,083,977 overnights in 2025, 70.3 per cent of them by foreign visitors. The largest foreign markets by overnights were Croatia (14.1 per cent), Serbia (10.9), Türkiye (9.7), Slovenia (5.9), Saudi Arabia (5.6), Germany (4.4), China (3.8), the USA (3.4) and Italy (3.1). In August 2025 Saudi Arabia alone accounted for 12.8 per cent of foreign overnights.

What the market lacks is a professional trade partner that combines real depth in Bosnia with the ability to run the rest of the Balkans. That is what we set out to be: Sarajevo-based, Balkans-wide, and selling only to the trade, so we never compete with you for your clients.

Seasonality: when to sell Bosnia

June to September is the peak, when Gulf, Turkish resort and European low-cost capacity all stack up. August is Sarajevo airport's busiest month, and Gulf family demand is concentrated in July and August and around Eid. Plan hotel allotments for those weeks early.

April, May and October are the best windows for European, Turkish and Asian coach groups: Lufthansa Group, Turkish Airlines and low-cost carriers are all flying, hotel availability and rates are better and Gulf demand has not yet started or has ended.

Winter 2026/27 is thinner than usual. Ryanair leaves Sarajevo between 25 October 2026 and 27 March 2027, LOT suspends Warsaw and Turkish Airlines trims Istanbul to 12 weekly flights. Winter city breaks, Christmas trips and ski programmes on Jahorina and Bjelašnica work best with Turkish Airlines, the Lufthansa Group and Wizz Air. Summer 2027 is expected to rebound, with more Ryanair routes and the first easyJet flights to Sarajevo.

2026 also showed how quickly Gulf flights can change. After airspace disruption in the region, several Gulf carriers cancelled or shortened their Sarajevo season. For Gulf series we recommend flexible release dates and a fallback routing via Istanbul.

Entry and visas

Bosnia and Herzegovina is not in the EU or the Schengen area and sets its own entry rules. Many nationalities, including EU citizens and Turkish citizens, can enter without a visa. Bosnia has run a seasonal visa waiver for citizens of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain from 1 June to 30 September. Rules change, so we check them for every group's nationalities at booking. Last checked: October 2026.

For multi-country programmes the neighbours matter too. Croatia is in the Schengen area, and Montenegro has announced visa requirements for Turkish, Chinese and Saudi citizens from 1 November 2026. Bosnia and Serbia are therefore easier anchors for those markets; check current rules before you sell.

Questions agents ask about a DMC in Bosnia

Who is a reliable incoming tour operator in Bosnia and Herzegovina for group tours?

travellige is a Sarajevo-based, trade-only incoming tour operator for group tours in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We plan and operate coach and private-vehicle programmes for groups and FIT, contract hotels, guides and transport, and give your agency one operations contact for the whole trip. We work only with travel agencies and tour operators, never directly with travellers.

Do you only work with travel agencies and tour operators?

Yes. travellige is trade-only. We do not sell to individual travellers, so we never compete with our partners for their clients.

Can you combine Bosnia with Croatia and Montenegro in one contract?

Yes. The most requested combination is Sarajevo, Mostar, Dubrovnik and Kotor. We contract every country ourselves and send one invoice.

Do you offer halal-friendly programmes for Gulf and Malaysian agencies?

Yes. We plan halal meals, prayer times, family accommodation, private drivers and Arabic- or Turkish-speaking guides. We describe programmes as halal-friendly and tell you exactly what each restaurant and hotel provides.

Can you handle Medjugorje pilgrimage groups?

Yes. We handle hotels, transfers from Split, Dubrovnik and Mostar, Mass and confession schedules, and add-ons to Mostar, Sarajevo or the Croatian coast.

What is the best airport for a group to Bosnia?

Sarajevo for most groups, Mostar for Herzegovina and pilgrims, and Dubrovnik or Split when the programme starts on the coast. We advise when we quote.

Is Bosnia and Herzegovina a good destination for school and study groups?

Yes. History, reconciliation and European integration are strong study themes. We plan visits such as the Tunnel of Hope and the Srebrenica memorial with suitable guides and preparation.
