Why this programme sells
For more than four centuries the Ottoman Empire shaped the towns of the central Balkans. This route connects its finest surviving examples: Baščaršija and the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, the vizier town of Travnik, Stari Most in Mostar, the tekke of Blagaj, the fortified village of Počitelj, the Sandžak town of Novi Pazar, the stone bridge and mosques of Prizren and the Old Bazaar of Skopje.
It is built for Turkish operators selling Ottoman heritage, for Muslim travellers from the Gulf and South-East Asia, and for European and American culture and study groups. Halal dining is easy along the whole route, and every day includes at least one major mosque, bridge or bazaar.

Group size and guiding
The route works for private couples with a driver-guide and for coach groups up to 45. For groups of 10 to 20 we recommend a midibus, which is easier in the narrow old towns of Počitelj, Prizren and Mostar.
A tour manager in English, German, Turkish, Arabic or Italian travels with the group. Turkish-speaking guiding is widely available on this route, as Turkish is understood in parts of the Sandžak, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
FAQ
Why does the route go from Serbia into Kosovo and not the other way round?
Direction matters. Serbia does not recognise Kosovo's border crossings with third countries, so travellers who enter Kosovo from North Macedonia or Albania may be refused when they later try to cross from Kosovo into Serbia. Travelling Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia avoids that problem. We plan every Kosovo leg with this in mind.
Do Turkish groups need visas for this route?
Turkish citizens can currently travel visa-free to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and North Macedonia for short stays. The route avoids Montenegro, which has announced visa requirements for Turkish citizens from 1 November 2026. Rules change; last checked: October 2026.
Can you include only Prizren or only Novi Pazar?
Yes. For a shorter version, we can drive Sarajevo to Novi Pazar and on to Skopje, or route through Kosovo with a night in Prizren only. Each variant takes 8 days.
Can the programme include Friday prayers?
Yes. We plan the itinerary so that Friday falls in a city with a major mosque, such as Sarajevo, Mostar or Skopje, and adjust timings around prayer.
Can the tour start in Skopje instead?
Partly. Skopje, Prizren and then Sarajevo via Montenegro or Albania is possible, but entering Serbia from Kosovo after arriving from North Macedonia is not advisable. We would route the reverse version via Montenegro or Albania, subject to your clients' visa situation.
